Stearns County Pheasants Forever - Youth Page
Minnesota's Next Pheasant Hunters
Welcome to the next generation in conservation and pheasant hunting enthusiasts. In efforts to help our younger generation play a larger role in our efforts to conserve and provide habitat for upland game, our chapter provides today's youth with opportunities to learn about what Pheasants Forever is truly about. Minnesota provides conservation educational materials, safety of firearms and mentor youth hunts for those kids who may not have the same opportunities as most. Take a moment and read about our youth events or find out how you can become a key component of helping future Pheasants Forever Members.
Your full donation amount goes directly to our youth programs AND the amount of your support is matched 2:1 by Midway USA’s foundation, which pays back 5% a year to our chapter for local youth activities! Stearns County Pheasants Forever is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Along with the programs below we’re actively assisting area high schools with participation in what is rapidly becoming the most successful youth shooting program – the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League. In 2013 there were 204 schools in the league and more than 3,000 students will participate in 2014. More than 2,000 youth participate in the state tournament annually, the largest one of its kind in the U.S. Schools currently showing interest in the program are Albany, Cathedral, Foley, Holdingford, Long Prairie, Melrose, ROCORI, Sartell, Sauk Centre and Sauk Rapids, some with more than 50 students enrolled.
Stearns County Chapter Education/Youth Efforts We take on a lot of projects as a chapter, but the most rewarding are undoubtedly our youth programs. Here are a few of the youth programs we've put on lately:
High School Trap and Skeet: SCPF provides fundraising opportunities to support their local team. We also help coach shooters and aide in organizing local teams. In 2015 Minnesota had over 5,000 students participating at the State Shoot in Alexandria, MN. The sport continues to grow each year.
Firearm Safety Course: Last spring SCPF sponsored seven kids from the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization to participate in a Firearms Safety Course.
Youth Day: Each year we host our annual Youth Day. Approximately fifty youth from Stearns County travel to Albany Sportsmans Club for some fun, learning and outdoor experience. Shooting instruction, hunting ethics and food are provided to the youngsters.
Sponsorships: We have sponsored numerous youth to attend 4-H shooting sports and outdoor skills events both locally and nationally.
SCPF and Big Brother Big Sisters Youth Mentor Hunt:Each year approximately Ten youth participated in a one day event. The day includes a gun safety presentation, trap shooting, a pheasant hunt and is capped off with a nice meal. The entire cost of this hunt is covered by donors.
We are well aware that the future of conservation rests with the youth of today and we take an active role in educating and exposing local youth to the outdoors and conservation every time we can.
State fish and wildlife agencies across the nation have reported significant declines in the number of youth hunters. This negative trend is a real concern for the state's natural resources managers. Fish and wildlife management and research programs, in addition to law enforcement activities, are largely funded through hunting and fishing license sales. Therefore, declines in the number of hunters and anglers could result in reductions in fish and wildlife-based programs and services.
